The scripture in 1 Thessalonians 5: 18 speaks of giving thanks in everything. Now notice it doesn't say for everything, but in everything. And when you look at it in the Greek New Testament, it is written as a command that we are to continually give thanks in all things.
Now why would God command us to give thanks? Is it simply for His benefit, or could it be because it benefits us when we are thankful. I believe the latter is the reason He commands us to be thankful.
Here are a few benefits to our being thankful:
1) It is the first step toward his presence and glory...which we need when we are going thru difficult circumstances. (Psalm 100: 4)
2) It frees God to fight against our spiritual enemies when we are thankful. (2 Chronicles 20: 21-22)
3) It's an expression of faith, and we need faith to overcome when we are going thru difficulties. (Luke 17: 11-19)
4) Being thankful brings wholeness to us on the inside, in our heart and soul. (Luke 17: 19)
So, this week and every week, let's give thanks in everything.
And from all of us at LOTW and from the Wilson family---Happy Thanksgiving.
